RAIN WASHES PITCHERS' DUEL
Scoreless tie halted by weather
Salem, VA—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, played to a draw through six Thursday night with Winston-Salem on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field when the rains came. Play was halted after six as a thunderstorm zipped through the area with heavy rains and lightning. The game will be made up from the stopping point as a doubleheader on Friday, May 30th.
AVALANCHE AND AMERICAN RED CROSS TEAM UP
JOIN FORCES AS PARTNERS
Salem, VA (May 8, 2008) - The Salem Avalanche, Advanced Class-A affiliate of
the Houston Astros, have joined with the American Red Cross to form a "life
support team" for area hospital patients who will require blood
transfusions. The partnership is a season long effort to educate people in
the communities about the ongoing need for blood donors and create awareness
and visibility for blood donation opportunities in the area.
ROCKS SWEEP AVS
Wilmington’s second fells Salem
Wilmington, DE—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, saw Wilmington post five straight singles in a four-run second inning Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium in a 7-2 win for the Blue Rocks. Wilmington (15-17) swept Salem (13-19) with the win, the first sweep by an opponent of the Avs this season.

Dickerson’s launch wins game two

Wilmington, DE—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, got a superb pitching performance from Polin Trinidad Tuesday night but could not outlast Wilmington in 11 innings as the Blue Rocks toppled the Avalanche 3-1. Joe Dickerson’s home run, his third of the season, sunk the Avs (13-18) in favor of the Blue Rocks (14-17).
